Free Gift #5

If you signed up for the subscription-based version of this Eaglemoss 1:8 scale James Bond Aston Martin DB5 partwork model, you will receive five FREE gifts along the way. The first gift was a Poster, the second was the Blueprints, and the third was the Collector’s Binder. The fourth gift (a 1:43 model of the car) is still on back order. Eaglemoss skipped that one and sent me the final gift with Issue 08, the Display Base.

The Display Base is a generic black-painted wooden platform. There is a small block at the front that can hold a plaque. A small ‘007’ self-adhesive plague was included separately that needed to be installed. I tacked it on for the picture below. Note that I did not remove the plastic protective film over the plague to keep it protected, but I am pretty sure it is glossy under there.

There is nothing too special about this base. It appears Eaglemoss designed it so they could ship the same base with many of their other part work model builds (and just send out different plaques). I received the exact same base with my GT-R build (with a different plaque). I won’t be using any of the display bases for any of my builds as I have a nice display cabinet for these models. So, I will likely sell my bases to others.

If you are interested in the dimensions, they are as follows:

  • External Edges: 27″ x 14 3/16″ x 1 7/16″ (68.5 x 36 x 4 cm)
  • Internal Surface: 25.25″ x 12.25″ with a 7/16″ lip (63.8 x 31 cm with a 1 cm lip)
  • Badge Size: 3 1/8″ x 2″ (8 x 5 cm)
  • Badge Holder: Adds (13/16″ or 2 cm) to the depth, and 3/8″ (0.9 cm) to the height

One last thing. It is not the same display base advertised on the Eaglemoss DB5 website, which looks to have an engraved Aston Martin logo on it. That is really too bad, it looks really nice:
