Oil Filter Assembly

The Oil Filter Assembly (011-A) has a pin that fits into this D-shaped hole in the side of the Right Engine Block (011-B):

Simply press the Oil Filter Assembly into place. No glue or screws are required here:

Right Engine Block

Retrieve the Left Engine Block assembly from Pack 08. When laid next to the Right Engine Block, you can see the two protruding lugs that match both sides together:

Fit the two engine block halves together, aligning these posts:

Using two (2) Type C screws (provided back in Pack 07), secure the block halves together along the bottom.

TIP: Since these are the first screws of the build that drive into metal, I want to take a moment to recommend you read my 3-in-One Oil page. I did not start using this oil until much later in my build, but it has made such a difference I came back here to mention it now.

UPDATE: Back in Pack 09, I recommended holding off on installing the Distributor Cap and Leads until now. That is because I should have attached the Gearbox at this point. Unfortunately, I did not notice this until much later in my build. So, let’s do that now real quick. Retrieve your Gearbox assembly from Pack 08 and fit it to the underside of the Engine Block assembly as shown:

Secure the Gearbox to the engine from above with one (1) Type L screw:

Next, retrieve the Cylinder Head assembly (from the last issue) and take notice that it has these two recesses that match up to the two protruding posts on the top of the engine block:

Fit the Cylinder Head assembly to the top of the block, aligning these posts. The tabs along the top of the engine block also slot into matching recesses in the head. Once complete, the two attachment screw holes are circled below:

Notice anything? The Distributor is in the way of this rear screw hole! Not a great design Eaglemoss. To get to this screw hole, I had to carefully pull the Distributor out of the its slot in the head (which is not very easy to do). This is why I went back to Pack 09 and recommended we leave this out until now:

Now, we can secure the Cylinder Head to the top of the Engine Block using two (2) Type D screws (also provided back in Pack 07):

Finally, fit the Distributor back into the head and reattach the ignition leads again. It is easier to put it back in than it was to take out:

This is what it looks like with the Gearbox and Cylinder Head attached (photo taken much later in my build):

Thoughts

Well, the engine is in one major piece now. Although, I wish the provided instructions were better planned out so we don’t have to remove pieces already installed. At least it is looking pretty good!

  1. You’re gonna have to take it apart again. The oil pan and transmission need screwed in. You can see the hole on the left engine block, and in the oil pan.
