PACK 21

 Return to the BUILD

With this pack, we can actually use the parts from the previous two packs. These steps will nearly complete our second wheel.

Parts

This image includes the parts for the entire issue. However, the parts included with this pack are:

  • Right Wheel Rim Ring
  • Washer

Materials: The Right Wheel Rim Ring is metal and the Washer is plastic.

Screws

This pack comes with two bags of unlabeled screws containing the following type(s):

  • Five (5) Type C – We’ve seen these before
  • Two (2) Type Z – We’ve seen these before too

Build

Wheel Rim Ring

We now have the parts to complete the Inner Wheel instructions from the Pack 19, so we should do this first.

Clip the Inner Wheel (from the previous pack) to the Outer Wheel Rim.

There two locating pins on the Inner Wheel that are different sizes (the larger one is circled in red below):

Align these to the correct matching holes in the Outer Wheel Rim and press the Inner Wheel into place (the larger hole is circled red below):

Finally, secure these parts together with four (4) Type C screws.

This is your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:

Outer Wheel Rim

Now, for the instructions from Pack 20: The Outer Wheel Rim clips to the combined inner wheel assembly. Don’t worry if these seem loose right now.

There are four pins on the back of the Outer Wheel RimThese pins match holes in the Outer Wheel Rim. However, one of these four pins is thicker than the others. The ‘thick’ pin and matching hole are circled red below:

There are no screws here, so align the pins to the holes and just press these wheel parts together:

Tyre

The instructions say to put the tyre on in the next pack, but I recommend doing it now.

Retrieve a Tyre from Pack 15 (or even Pack 05). The Tyre is pretty soft rubber, so just work it over the entire wheel assembly until the ‘beads’ of the Tyre are seated as shown.

I recommend pushing the wheel assembly through the tire with the outside of the wheel first. The process of inserting it can scuff the Tyre sidewall possibly leaving marks you probably don’t want visible:

Thoughts

Three packs of parts came together to build a wheel. These really could have been one pack! Keep the Washer nearby, we will need it and one of the Z screws in the next pack.
