Parts

This image includes the parts for the entire issue. However, the parts included with this pack are:

• Main Roof Frame

Materials: This Main Roof Frame is metal.

Screws

This pack came with three bags of unlabeled screws containing the following type(s):

• Seven (7) Type A – We’ve seen these before
• Three (3) Type C – We’ve seen these before too
• Twenty (20) Type D – We’ve seen these before as well

Build

Main Roof Frame

I wanted to take a moment and admire this beautiful roof panel. It is heavy and the black paint around the windshield is a nice touch:

OK, let’s get started. We will need to collect the following parts from earlier packs:

• The Inside Roof Assembly and Ejector Seat Roof Frame from Pack 47
• The Windshield Frame assembly from Pack 48
• The Rear Windshield Frame assembly and from Pack 49
• The three ‘fuel tank’ parts supplied with Pack 50
• The three ‘fuel tank’ parts supplied in the previous pack

Rear Windshield

Place the Rear Windshield Frame onto these matching posts around the rear window opening of the Main Roof Frame. It will only fit one way.

I found it easier to install this by fitting it over the lower posts (in the picture below), then pivoting it down over the upper posts:

Ejector Seat Roof Frame

Press the Ejector Seat Roof Frame onto these matching pins/posts around the top opening of the Main Roof Frame. It will only fit one way.

This is a press fit and will hold itself in place:

Front Windshield

Place the upper edge of the Front Windshield onto these two matching posts inside the front opening of the Main Roof Frame.

Make sure these lower tabs are resting ‘outside’ of the Main Roof Frame tabs, as circled below. One thing not mentioned is that the tabs on either side of the Windshield assembly (marked with arrows below) need to be squeezed into the matching notches on either side of the Main Roof Frame:

Inside Roof Assembly

While holding the windshield assemblies in place, fit the Interior Roof Assembly into the Main Roof Frame, as shown:

Secure the Interior Roof Assembly to the Main Roof Frame with sixteen (16) Type D screws:

These screws will hold the top edges of the windshields in place, but the windshields will be a bit loose for now. This is also your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:

The Visors

This is where the instructions say to install the Sun Visors, but we already did this back in Pack 46 and Pack 47. Still, this is what we have built so far:

The Gas Tanks

Push the pin of the Right Fuel Tank (from Pack 50) into this right rear recess of the Main Roof Frame until it sits all the way in:

Slide the ‘leg’ of the Right Petrol Cap (from Pack 50) into this notch of the Main Roof Frame, as shown:

While holding the Right Petrol Cap in place, fit the two holes on the ends of the Right Petrol Cap Hinge (from this pack) to the matching pins at this location inside the Main Roof Frame.

This will capture the ‘leg’ of the Right Petrol Cap. On my model, installing this hinge really made it hard to open/close the cap. I even tried sanding down a bit of the hinge (circled below). While this helped, opening/closing these caps is not going to work well. I feel like it may snap the ‘leg’ off, so I will not be opening these on my model:

Secure the Right Petrol Cap Hinge into place with one (1) Type C screw, as shown:

Move to the opposite side and push the pin of the Left Gas Tank (from this pack) into this left rear recess of the Main Roof Frame until it sits flush:

Slide the ‘leg’ of the Left Gas Cap (from this pack) into this notch of the Main Roof Frame, as shown:

While holding the Left Gas Cap in place, fit the Left Petrol Cap Cover Hinge (from Pack 50) to this location inside the Main Roof Frame. and secure it into place with one (1) Type C screw, as shown.

This will capture the ‘leg’ of the Left Gas Cap. I had the same issue here with this hinge making it difficult to open the cap:

Thoughts

Wow, now that was a fantastic pack to build! There was a lot to do and we brought many loose parts together to build this Main Roof Frame. It is unfortunate that the gas cap panels are so troublesome, but it doesn’t really take away from the build. The Main Roof Frame itself appears to be painted to closely match the Silver Birch paint color of the original DB5.
