PACK 60

 Return to the BUILD

“Now that you have the trigger, you can fit the bulletproof screen to the trunk of your DB5. The hinge fits around the housing for the screen and will attach to the trunk to the rest of the car.

Materials: Everything in this pack is metal.

Build

Bulletproof Screen

Step 1

Retrieve your Bulletproof Screen Housing Front assembly from the previous pack. Fit the longer end of the Bulletproof Screen Trigger into this V-notched post of the Bulletproof Screen Housing Front, as shown.

The longer end of this part has a ‘knurled’ end which takes a bit of force to push in; just try not to damage it:

Step 2

Retrieve your Bulletproof Screen Housing Rear from Pack 58.  Fit this to the Bulletproof Screen Housing Front assembly and secure them together with the four (4) Type L screws left over from the previous pack, as shown.

First, make sure the trigger wire is pointing straight up:

When the two pieces come together, the trigger wire should fit into this notch of the Bulletproof Screen Housing Rear:

Then, we can add the four screws:

NOTE: While it is not mentioned in either the magazine or the PDF Instructions, there are two more screws I think we are supposed to install here. On the back of this assembly, I added two (2) more Type L screws to these holes. These should help the trigger wire operate more efficiently:

Step 3

Retrieve your Bulletproof Screen (all the way back from Pack 01). Make sure the Bulletproof Screen Trigger wire inside the housing is pointing straight up and slide this Bulletproof Screen down into the housing this way around.

The ends of the springs should fit over these rounded tabs (not the square legs):

Without the front housing installed, we can see how the trigger wire latches the screen in place:

On my model, this trigger wire did not engage well with the screen, so I bent it down a little so it was closer to the screen:

Leave the screen latched in place for now as there is nothing keeping it in place in the ‘up’ position until fitted to the trunk:

Step 4

Retrieve your Trunk assembly from Pack 58. Fit this Bulletproof Screen Housing assembly to the Trunk assembly as shown, and secure with two (2) Type A screws.

This is your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:

The trunk should now look like this:

Step 5

Fit the Trunk Lid Hinge to the Trunk assembly as shown, and secure it into place with two (2) more Type A screws.

Make sure the Trunk Lid Hinge fits over this T-shaped post section of the Bulletproof Screen Housing Front or else the trunk won’t close properly:

Thoughts

This was one of those great packs with lots to do! We also brought many separate parts together, including one from the very beginning. However, I am not impressed with this bulletproof screen mechanism. It is clunky, gets jammed, and does not really latch/unlatch properly unless the trunk is at an angle where gravity is helping the trigger wire sit in the screen grooves. We shall see if it will work OK with the trunk open. Put this assembly somewhere safe for now as we won’t need it again until Pack 72.

    1. Other than adjusting that pin mechanism, I did not. Mine works, but not very well. At this point, the car is finished and now sits in my display case. These large-scale models are collector’s items, not toys, so my DB5 will likely never get ‘played with’. Therefore, it is not incredibly important to me that all the Q goodies work. It looks absolutely amazing just as the Goldfinger Aston Martin!
